How to organize an Easter egg hunt in your backyard

Easter is a Christian celebration in which the resurrection of Jesus is celebrated.

During the era of Christianity’s expansion, Easter was intermingled with pagan festivals celebrating the change of season, the fertility of spring and the rebirth of life after the harsh winter.

There are many theories about the origin of the Easter egg but they all agree that the egg symbolizes the beginning of life, it is a symbol of fertility. In many European countries and also in some cities in the United States, they celebrate Easter with games with Easter eggs, such as “egg hunt”, “egg crash” (where the objective of the game is to break your opponent’s hard-boiled egg with your own) and “egg rolling”.

One of the most fun games, in which children of all ages can participate, is the Easter egg hunt in the garden. In this game, children have to find as many Easter eggs as possible, which are hidden in the most diverse places in the garden. To make the search fair and fun for everyone, at the end of the game the loot will be divided among all participants, so that everyone has their reward, including the little ones. The objective is to have fun and share.

Organizing an Easter egg hunt in your garden is very simple, here are some tips so you don’t forget anything.

Easter Decoration

Prepare your home for your Easter egg hunt by hanging colorful balloons in your yard and maybe some colorful posters in your garden and maybe some Easter-themed posters. Easter at your door to welcome welcome the rest of the participants, if you have invited more people.

If you plan to serve refreshments at the questset up some tables in the garden with a brightly colored tablecloth colorful tablecloth and some streamers.

It also prepares Easter baskets for all participants in the search( in principle, guests usually bring their own baskets, but if there is no tradition in your area, have extra baskets ready). Preparation of the Easter Egg Hunt

You can hide plastic or real eggs for the search.

If you decorate and hide real eggs, prepare some small prizes to hand out to the children at the end of the game.

If you use plastic eggs you can put small toys, candy, coins, stickers, or numbers that correspond to larger prizes, such as stuffed animals, chocolate bunnies, Easter books, etc., inside.

Tip: calculate a dozen eggs per guest so that everyone can find and collect a good amount of eggs.

Hide the eggs

If younger and older children are going on the Easter egg hunt, divide your garden into two areas so you can hide Easter eggs according to age groups.

So, you can make it easy for the younger children by leaving the eggs on low branches and in open places, but more difficult for the older ones. Some more difficult places to find, such as under leaves, in the gutters, in the mailbox or on the wheels of cars, will be perfect challenges for the older children in the group.

Having them hunt for Easter eggs in more difficult places will also help them enjoy the hunt more.

Tip: the hunt is not over until the last egg is found, so count well how many eggs you hide!

Tip: If you use real eggs for your Easter egg hunt, we advise you to boil and decorate them a week in advance to avoid worries (it can be fun to do with your kids).

Refill the plastic eggs also one week before the hunt.

Easter Games

To have fun after the Easter egg hunt we suggest you to have some games prepared for the children. Some typical Easter games could be:

Easter Petanque or egg rolling: Use the colored hard-boiled eggs you used for the quest, and a white hard-boiled egg. Roll the white one in the center of the play area and take turns trying to see who can roll the colored egg closest to the white egg.

Obstacle course: Each participant will need a plastic spoon and one of the colored Easter eggs. Players must carry the egg on the spoon without dropping it throughout the obstacle course. To create the obstacles you can use the search baskets, scatter eggs on the floor that cannot be stepped on, etc.

Easter Egg Toss: For this game any type of egg can work (even raw, for a greater challenge for older children). Pairs of players start with the players almost close together, with only a few inches between each member of the pair. After successfully throwing and catching the egg, the pairs move back one step each player to create a larger gap between them and make another throw. Continue to widen the gap to make the game more interesting.
