Photocatalysis, how does it work?

 

Oxidative photocatalysis is a natural system whereby light energy strikes a mineral and triggers a chemical process that results in the breakdown of organic matter. Photocatalysis accelerates the natural decomposition of organic matter by means of a catalyst. In the case of Atmös, the catalyst used is the mineral oxide mixture, which accelerates the natural chemical decomposition of organic molecules without becoming exhausted.

 

Atmös in four steps:

  

  1. Atmös creates a long-lasting, invisible, slim and resistant layer of nanoparticles above the artificial grass.
  1. When the UV rays contact Atmös, it activates a chemical reaction which transforms the oxygen (O2) and the humidity (H2O) of the environment into two powerful cleaning agents. The O2 is transformed into superoxidative anions (O2-) and the H2O is transformed into hydroxyls (OH-).
  1. The radical hydroxyls (OH-) work on the COV’s and the PM 2,5 as well as the PM 10. They convert into vapour (H2O) and a small residual amount of CO2.
  1. The superoxidative anions (02-) intercede with the NOx, transforming them into harmless salts (NO3), easily soluble in water.

 

This process is repeated millions of times, reducing the levels of NOx, COV’s, PM 2,5, PM 10, and achieving a considerable improvement on the air quality. Moreover, it obtains a clean surface, free from bacteria, viruses and toadstool, constantly completely disinfected.
