Drying artificial turf
Artificial turf does not need irrigation, but this does not mean that it cannot get wet. Rain, snow or water to clean it are not enemies of synthetic grass as long as the grass is of quality and has been installed correctly. In Albergrass we tell you how to dry artificial turf.
What happens if the artificial turf gets wet
Quality artificial turf, properly installed and with a proper drainage system can get wet without problems.
When the synthetic grass is of high quality, it has the optimum number of drainage holes that allow water to drain and prevent puddles from forming.
In areas with very humid climates with high precipitation rates, either water or snow, it is possible to install quality artificial turf with all the guarantees of durability. If a lawn is chosen for its economic price and being of poorer quality, it will not ensure its durability in conditions of high rainfall.
The drainage system
The installation of artificial turf must take into account a proper drainage system. When the installation is done by expert professionals, proper drainage is guaranteed.
In order for the rainwater to drain away correctly and not to puddle on the lawn, it has to be installed with the appropriate slopes and inclines for the water to drain. In this way, drying the artificial grass is very easy and fast.
In addition, drains for water drainage must be incorporated. The position of the drains must be marked in the installation so as not to cover them with the synthetic sheeting.
It is also important to place a drainage mesh under the synthetic grass mulch to facilitate the elimination of water and prevent it from stagnating.
Mesh installation
In case a blanket of snow covers your lawn, our advice is to let the snow melt naturally and the water drain properly. It is not advisable to step on the grass when it is covered with snow, because it will make ice slabs.
Silica sand
Another element that, together with a good drainage system and a quality turf, facilitates the drying of the synthetic mulch is silica sand.
Once the artificial turf is installed, it is advisable to spread silica sand all over the surface. This compound helps the turf to grip better, improves its drainage and allows it to dry faster.
Quality and installation of artificial turf are key to maintaining durability
Consequences of poor drainage
If a poor quality artificial turf is chosen and not installed correctly, water drainage will not be adequate.
When artificial turf is not dried properly, moisture condenses under the mantle. Humid environments are favorite habitats for the proliferation of bacteria and microorganisms harmful to health.
Moisture depletes years of artificial turf life
Moisture condensation will lead to the appearance of fungus and mold on the artificial turf.
To prevent moisture from damaging your artificial turf, we recommend that you get advice on which type of grass is the most suitable for the climatic conditions of your area and that the installation is carried out by expert professionals who guarantee an adequate drainage system.
In Albergrass we can advise you and install the artificial turf so that its durability is guaranteed throughout its useful life.
