Photocatalysis, how does it work?

 

Oxidative photocatalysis is a natural system whereby light energy strikes a mineral and triggers a chemical process that results in the breakdown of organic matter. Photocatalysis accelerates the natural decomposition of organic matter by means of a catalyst. In the case of Atmös, the catalyst used is mixed mineral oxides (MOM), which accelerates the natural chemical decomposition of organic molecules without becoming exhausted.

 

 

How Atmös works in four steps:

  1. Atmös creates a fine, invisible, durable and resistant network of nanoparticles on artificial turf.

 

  1. When UV rays come into contact with Atmös, a chemical reaction is triggered that converts oxygen (O2) and moisture (H2O) in the environment into two powerful cleaning agents. The O2 converts it into superoxidizing anions (O2-), and the H2O converts it into hydroxyls (OH-).

 

  1. Hydroxyl radicals (OH-) act on volatile organic compounds (VOC) and PM 2.5 and PM 10, converting them into water vapor (H2O).

 

  1. Superoxidizing anions (O2-) act on nitrogen oxides (NOx), converting them into harmless salts (NO3) that are easily soluble in water.

This process is repeated millions of times, significantly reducing NOx, VOC, PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels, and considerably improving air quality. Likewise, it continuously disinfects, achieving a surface free of bacteria, viruses and fungi.
